The Benefits of Web Design for Kansas Businesses with CPTs & ACF Pro
After doing lots of WordPress sites under MKS Web Design, I found a better way to build for Kansas businesses: using Custom Post Types (CPTs) together with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF Pro). I want to walk you through why it works, how it helps Kansas-focused sites, and how you can apply it too.
What Are Custom Post Types (CPTs)?
WordPress gives you “posts” and “pages” out of the box — good for simple blogs or basic sites. But when a Kansas business needs to manage things like services, team members, or case studies, you don’t want to force everything into one bucket. That’s where a custom post type comes in: you create a new “drawer” for your content so it stays organized and easy to scale.
Why I Prefer ACF Pro
I’ve used ACF Pro for years — both at MKS Web Design and now through my own site work at anthonyrichter.com. It lets me build custom fields (text, images, maps, repeaters) so clients in Kansas can update content themselves without breaking layouts. And since version 6.1 you can even create CPTs *inside* ACF Pro — no extra plugin needed.
This is especially handy when I’m working with Kansas-area clients who want simplicity: they don’t need a thousand plugins or complex dashboards. They need something that works and they can reliably use.
Local Kansas Business Use-Cases
Here are real-world examples from Kansas that I’ve applied this setup to:

- Service Listings for a Manhattan Contractor – We built a “Services” CPT with fields for timeline, cost, photos, location. Now they add new offerings themselves in seconds.
- Team Profiles for a Topeka Firm – A “Team” CPT with bios, LinkedIn links, headshots. Easy for them to keep updated as they grow.
- Property Listings for a Kansas City Agent – A “Properties” CPT capturing price, features, gallery, map and more. SEO-friendly and searchable.
Each of those sites became easier to build additional functionality on later (filters, search, archive pages) because the content was already structured well from day one.
SEO & Scalability Benefits for Kansas Sites
Using CPTs + ACF Pro means you’re building a site that’s future-proof. The content is stored cleanly, you can change themes or layouts later without data loss, and you’re ready for growth.
From an SEO perspective, this matters for Kansas businesses. You get archive pages, better control over metadata, custom schemas — all dialing in on local keywords like “Manhattan KS web design” or “Topeka small business website”. Google sees structure and relevance.
My Choice: ACF Pro (and Why I Stick With It)
Yes — ACF Pro has a cost. But for me it’s worth every penny. The repeaters, flexible layouts, options pages — they all save time and headaches. I’ve tested alternatives (MetaBox, Pods) but for Kansas-business client sites I found ACF just works smoother.
For local clients I work with, the biggest wins are: they can update content easily, I deliver something organized and reliable, and we avoid future plugin-conflicts or complex dashboards. That builds trust.
Wrapping Up
This approach — CPTs + ACF Pro — has changed how I build WordPress sites across Kansas. It’s scalable, client-friendly, and built to last. If you’re working with Kansas businesses (or you are a Kansas business) I encourage you to try this method.
